ATHLETE OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER 2020

Gabriel Peralta

1) Before joining CFRL what was your biggest struggle? What were your biggest frustrations?

Before joining CFRL I used to attend a conventional gym and certain days a week I did a crossfit routine which used to be difficult due to little experience or lack of motivation.

I was concerned about the intensity of CrossFit and I used to freak out or even decide not to do the routine even before I started, or to leave it halfway if I started it. In the end, many times it only ended up in a machine to compensate for the trip to the gym.

2) How did your struggle and frustrations affect your life? What did you feel like before joining CFRL?

Back then I thought that those WODs were not for everyone. I didn’t know that well about scaling up or down to suit your level and most of the time I found myself losing motivation, which at the end of the day did not allow me to see the results of being in a better physical condition.

3) What was it about CFRL that made you join?

When I arrived in the area, I had the doubt of whether to enter a conventional gym or challenge myself even more and do CrossFit. I found the establishment by chance while passing through the area and decided to go inside to ask. As soon as I saw the atmosphere, I didn’t think twice and decided to sign up. The rest has been history.

4) What made you stay with us? What do you enjoy the most about CFRL?

I like the sense of community and shared interests and goals in terms of fitness that exists here, the hospitality of both the staff and all the team.

By joining CFRL I have met a group of people with whom we share something in common. Everyone may show up to a workout with different options and with a different goal in mind, but we all still share a common goal, to work hard and feel better.

The second thing that I enjoy the most, is the free coffee! LOL.

5) How did our program help you? How is Life different for you now?

After joining CFRL and doing the routines, before starting each WOD the expression “Divide and Conquer ” usually comes to my mind and I try to apply it especially when the routines have many repetitions or when I consider them long.

I am trying to bring this expression to daily life, especially when working to reach personal and professional goals: one step at a time, persist and persist and never give up.

6) Were there any specific goals that you reached that you are particularly proud of? How did it make you feel?

Movements such as pull ups and toes-to-bars have been some of the most difficult for me, but a couple months ago I was unable to do them and needed to used the options, until decided to give it a try and started to stay after class at least 30 minutes to keep practicing.

In a short time and thanks to the guidance of the coaches, I was already taking the toes to the bar and performing the pull ups that in previous months I thought I would not be able to master. I still struggle with them specially when the workouts include high reps of these movements , it usually takes me a while, but the experience now has been much better than it was a couple months ago. On the other hand I have significantly increased the weights in the squats and deadlifts.

That achievement encouraged me to think and give myself the confidence that little by little, I could then master other movements which I still see as impossible and frustrating for me.

7) What would you tell someone interested in joining CFRL?

Do not think twice, along with the benefits you will get from CrossFit, you will join a team that will be there to helping you and supporting from the beginning until that last rep!. You’ll have fun, become a better athlete, stronger, will challenge yourself and will make new friends.

8) Is there anything personal you would like to add?

This is my first year living in the US and I have to say that joining CFRL has been one of the most gratifying things that has happened to me this year beyond getting in a good workout, I feel part of a supportive community and part of a place with new friends with common interests and fitness goals and also an English school for me lol!
