It’s New Years Resolution time, so here are some health and fitness resolutions to keep in mind for 2024!
There are a couple main reasons why people fail to uphold their New Years Resolutions, and the first is that we tend to set unclear, unrealistic targets for ourselves that are often too vague to accomplish. Unclear goals like getting healthier or losing weight tend to not be quite concrete enough to maintain.
The second reason why people fail to uphold their New Years Resolution is because they anticipate themselves to fail in terms of reaching their goals—and this could be due to a whole variety of reasons.
The Rising Legends team is here to help make 2024 different for you and your health and fitness goals, and with our help, we’re confident that you’ll reach your resolution’s goals and aspirations. Below are some of our tips to help you achieve your New Years Resolution this year!
1. Be Specific About Your Health Goals
What do terms like losing weight and toning up actually mean to you and your health goals? How exactly are you going to measure your progress, and why exactly do you want certain health and fitness improvements?
When you formulate your new health and fitness goals more definitively with a SMART test, you’ll set yourself up for more sustainable success this year. SMART stands for:
By being specific with your goals and progress this year, you can make sure that you’re maintaining SMART goals as a part of your New Years Resolution!
2. Be Active Whenever Possible
Consider walking, instead of taking a five-minute drive somewhere close by, when you have the schedule to do so.
This is the principle behind remaining active whenever possible, because it acknowledges people’s busy schedules while keeping you pledged toward opting into exercise when nothing is holding you back.
The good news is that teaming up with fitness specialists like the Rising Legends staff can help you remain consistent and motivated with your workout routine!
3. Increasing Fruits & Veggies Into Your Diet
Fruits and veggies are packed to the brim with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber that help you stay healthy on a daily basis. Ideally, you should be eating about 5-8 portions of fruits and veggies everyday.
This means that you’ll likely need to spread out your portions throughout the course of each day, but simply being consistent with your fruit and veggie intake will keep your diet on the right track!
4. Come Into The Gym On A Regular Basis
Exercise frequency is a crucial factor for anyone’s health and fitness goals, which is why coming in to see us at the Rising Legends gym on a regular basis will be one of the best things that you can do for you New Years Resolution.
A good goal is to come workout with us at least three days a week, and also have some other exercises that you do outside of the gym like running, cycling, swimming or yoga. Our team is always here to help you reach your fitness goals, but you have to keep showing up in order to start seeing your desired results!
5. Remaining Body Aware
Body awareness isn’t something that you can forget about right after you’re done exercising or working out, because this is the type of thing that you’ll need to remain cognizant of on a 24/7 basis.
Some of the key body awareness points to be on the lookout for include:
- Clenched jaw
- Tight shoulders
- Hunched back
- Stomach hanging out
- Head jutting forward
- Crossed limbs
If you can remind yourself to scan your body throughout the course of each day, you’ll better recognize posture issues and correct them.
6. Create A Training Journal
Training journals aren’t just for pro athletes, and you can use them as a way to keep tabs on what you’re doing each day to maintain your SMART goals.
You’ll likely find that this type of journaling will keep you motivated, which is one reason why they’re considered to be very useful tools for achieving health and fitness goals.
7. Understanding Your Correct Fluid Intake
Although there’s no set-in-stone amount of water that everyone should drink on a daily basis due to each person’s unique bodily needs, you’ll still need to drink plenty of water each day while you’re remaining active. It might not seem like you need as much water during the first cold months of the year, but it’s important to remember how warm offices can be extremely dehydrating.
A decent formula to keep in mind for your daily fluid intake is 1ml of water per calorie of food intake. So, this would mean about 2,000ml for 2,000 calories of daily food—and so on and so forth.
Our advice is to simply try increasing your water intake by around 500ml per day and see how it improves your energy levels, concentration and skin.
8. Finding Balance In Your Fitness Routine
If you have a passion for a certain fitness activity, it’s often tempting to restrict yourself to doing that favorite thing of yours. But this can be a huge mistake!
It’s crucial to find a balance with your fitness routine through implementing various activities into your schedule, which should include aerobic exercise, strength training and fitness workouts.
9. Try Not To Be Too Intense During Your Training
This isn’t necessarily a personality jab at those who love working out, because we’re actually referring to the amount of effort that you put into each training sessions. High-intensity workouts provide a whole array of different benefits, but you can still gain a lot from gentler-paced exercises as well.
Our advice is to mix your high-intensity training days with less intense days as a part of finding balance in your fitness routine.
10. Try Learning A New Fitness Activity
Whether it’s tennis lessons, surfing, horseback riding, Pilates or yoga, it’s a great idea to try new fitness activities as a part of your New Years Resolution this year.
By trying new things, you can achieve faster workout results through muscle confusion and creating new challenges for yourself. And above all else, it’s a ton of fun to get better at new exercises!
